August 18: Pervis Jackson bass singer for the R&B group for "The Spinners" died on this day in 2008...
... he was 70 when he died.
Born in New Orleans, Jackson was one of the group's original members in 1957. Sometimes billed as the Motown Spinners or later, The Detroit Spinners, the group compiled 12 gold records in the 1970s. They were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.
Jackson sang with the Spinners for 51 years - right up until his death from cancer.
