Sept. 13: Tupac Shakur died on this date in 1996...

... he was 25 years-old when he died six days after being shot while driving through Las Vegas in part of East and West Coast Gang wars.

American hip hop artist, poet and actor, Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in East Harlem, Manhattan, New York. He is is one of the best-selling music artists with 37.5 million albums sold in the United States and over 75 million albums worldwide. He is the second highest selling rap artist behind Eminem. Rolling Stone Magazine named him the 86th Greatest Artist of All Time.

In addition to his status as a top-selling rap artist, Tupac was a promising actor and a social activist. Most of Tupac's songs are about growing up amid violence and hardship in ghetto's, racism, problems in the society and conflicts with other rappers. Tupac's work is known for advocating the equality of mankind and the desirability of political and economic and social equality.

He was initially a roadie and backup dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground.
